A new pizzeria at long-established shopping haven, Boundary Mill, has been powered by
Valoriani, with the much-loved Lancashire venue having been “transformed” by its wood fired pizza oven, according to its CEO.
A Valoriani Igloo 140 wood oven is now at the heart of the operation in the Bumbellinis – the new pizzeria at the Colne venue that can boast being the UK’s number one mill store. In the first two months since its installation, its impact has been profound.
New CEO Ben Bannister, who took over from his father nine months ago, has wanted a solution to an issue relating to the demographic of visitors and shoppers. Whilst he considered Boundary to be looking after its older visitors really well, there was nowhere for younger families to have fun and relax over food. On the basis that everyone loves pizza, he decided that a pizzeria could be the answer and a pizza oven a good investment, if he chose wisely.
This was the rationale behind the opening of Bumbellinis – the pizzeria that now operates alongside BB’s Coffee Shop, Bannisters Restaurant and Banny’s British Kitchen, providing meals and refreshments for customers.
Since opening its oven mouth, the Valoriani Igloo 140 wood oven has been a massive hit. With a dome surround around the oven painted a striking yellow colour, to match the Bumbellinis branding and décor, it is a massive visual pull. But it is not just the eye-catching design that makes it so popular. It has also become the centre of younger customer interaction, with children being able to make their own pizza, choosing three toppings and watching their creation go into the oven for cooking.
The introduction of the Valoriani oven has, in the words of Ben Bannister, “brought a completely different clientele to Boundary Mill.” Rather than just seeing the older generation come shopping, the mill is seeing three generations of family all visiting together, for a real family day out. As Ben says: “It’s transformed Boundary Mill and Bumblellinis has almost become a destination, constantly packed with people specifically visiting us for the pizza.
“The restaurant is attracting people in the evenings too, so we are considering extending the opening hours, as the demand is most definitely there.”
Ben is delighted that he listened to the advice of a friend, who owns a Valoriani oven and assured him that Valoriani are the best pizza ovens to be had. Ben didn’t just take his friend’s word for it, doing some research of his own and buying a Valoriani home pizza oven, before investing capital in one for the business.
He found his own garden oven absolutely perfect and very easy to use, whether roasting meat, or cooking other dishes beyond pizza. As he says, “I found I adored it, especially in summer, when it’s great for entertaining. I found I could cook with it in the evening and discover it still warm in the morning. There’s something primitive about cooking breakfast outside, albeit in your contemporary, stylish pizza oven.”
Having experienced the Valoriani production values first-hand, Ben was happy to commit to a purchase for Bumbellinis and hasn’t looked back.
“I just wanted the best. If we were going to do a pizza restaurant, we wanted to do it properly. Thanks to the research undertaken, we have ended up with the best pizza oven in the market.”
Ben has also appreciated the training provided by Valoriani UK. The pizzeria’s head chef enjoyed training at the Valoriani culinary training centre in Preston, dispelling any worries over how to use the oven, as it all proved so simple. The ‘best thing” they discovered was actually how easy it is to clean – a simple matter of brushing it out.
But for a family concern like Boundary Mill, there was another big plus to working with Valoriani UK.
“The Valoriani team have the same values as us, as they too are a family business”, says Ben. “It’s just a brilliant company and I believe that, because it is a family business, it provides a more personal service. That’s important.”
